The Kings expected the physicality but their camp toughness did not show up on the floor.
โIt was physicality. I mean, more than anything, I thought that they were physical, picked up, nothing that we weren't anticipating. The response to that was not the response that I want. And our guys have had an incredible camp. They've played extremely hard, been extremely physical. It did not translate to the floor the way that I would like to see it.โ
Sacramento wants to play fast on defense too by being aggressive and finishing possessions with rebounds.
โWe want to play fast on both ends of the floor. It's not just offense... We want to play fast on defense too. We want to pick up quickly. We want to be aggressive. We want to be in gaps. We want to fly around. And then we want to end possessions with a rebound. And if you do that now all of a sudden you get a chance to get out and really have some fun and you play fast on the offensive end.โ
Sacramento wants an aggressive defense that hits first instead of waiting and reacting.
โSo, a defensive, defensive player is like somebody who's waiting. You know, you're gonna be reactionary. We don't want to do that. We want to be offensive, defensive players. And what I mean by that is we want to be aggressive. We want to get up. We want to be the first one to hit people. We want to communicate. We want to be in gaps. We want to rotate.โ
Sacramento wants to set a physical and aggressive tone and keep it up all game.
โI want to set the tone of physicality and aggressiveness. That's what we want to do. We want to come out and set the tone... we have to have the ability to not only start a game, but then we have to live through the middle of it and then we have to be able to finish it.โ
The Kings have to bring defense all the time and unselfish basketball.
โI think it's gotta be defense. It's gotta be defense all the time, toughness, and really just unselfish basketball out there. Just really executing on both sides of the floor that we worked on for a week or so with training camp.โ
