Shai beats defenders in many ways and stays unselfish until it is time to take over.
“what makes him so special is being able to just beat you in so many different ways whether it off the dribble in the mid three to the rim. I think that makes it so hard to guard and he does a great job of being unselfish out there and when it's time to take over, we know he can.”
McCain says others bringing the ball up saves Shai's energy and gets him to his spots quicker in the half court.
“for him, he's always guarded by the best player, and so when he has to take the ball up, he's getting tired. He's playing a lot of minutes, so having someone to relieve that pressure off of him, bringing the ball up, it allows him to use that quickness and use the stamina he has to make the move stronger, whatever it is, and get to our spots and get to our play quicker for him in the half court.”
McCain and some friends spent a week working out with SGA after McCain asked about his offseason work.
“Jared McCain says he asked SGA about his offseason workouts and SGA told him to just come out. So McCain and some friends spent a week working out with SGA.”
Shai emphasizing collaborative skill work and partner shooting during camp as a development tool.
“Everybody has worked on new things, and everybody is trying to get better. We can just bounce the nuances off of each other and get better, essentially. And I've found that partner shooting isn't game simulation, but it's closer to it.”
Shai feels like a better and more versatile player and is in better shape.
“I feel like I'm a better basketball player. More versatile as a basketball player and better shape, too. Versatility offensively and defensively.”
