Memphis wanted to be a team that did not totally rely on made shots to win.

“Tuomas Iisalo said after the season opener—the Grizzlies wanted to be a team that didn't totally rely on making shots to win.”

Memphis leads the league in offensive rebounds at around 40 percent.

“One of the ways to make the team play more robust basketball is to win the possession game as often as possible, get more opportunities at it. And I think we've done that here early in the season. We're leading the league in offensive rebounds, and I believe we're at around 40%.”

Memphis has defended transition well because of its discipline and commitment to sprinting back and matching up.

“We've also done a great job with transition defense, which is, let's call it an anomaly. That's not typical because usually when coaches think about, they think about it as a spectrum where if you put more resources in one, then you're going to give up on the other one. But our guys discipline, the commitment to each other, to sprinting back, to matching up has been great in those situations.”

The four guards have bought in and it took little convincing.

“Asked Micah Nori about guards Damian Lillard, Ja Morant, Jrue Holiday, and Scoot Henderson buying in with all four averaging between 20 and 29 minutes to begin the season "The buy in has been super. And I really didn't have to do a whole lot."”

Damian Lillard expected to play 28-32 minutes regularly with occasional games at 36 minutes.

“Like I told them, you're going to get yourself to your 28 to 30, 32 minutes. It might not be the 36. And I don't think that those three guys, when I say those three, Drew, Ja, and Dane, they may get those every once in a while, but I don't think consistently that it'd be fair to them to play them that much.”
