Morant initiates on timeouts and sideline out of bounds plays while Lillard sometimes works off the ball.
“If the five man gets it, they're looking for Ja... coming out of timeouts and side out of bounds is when it's more called... we'll just kind of say like, hey, Ja, you initiate... And then we want Dame off the ball. And then there's other times where we want Dame on it.”
Lillard and Holiday are being worked into the top nine with an eye on pairing them.
“you're adding Dame and you're adding Drew which are two needle movers. And so how can we integrate them into your top nine and getting those guys playing together? And it's all about combinations, in my opinion.”
Lillard expects Morant and Avdija to start alongside him as far as he knows.
“Ja will start, I'll start, Deni will, I mean, that's as far as I know.”
Lillard's body feels the best it has in years but his shooting rhythm still comes and goes.
“my body feels as good as it's felt movement wise, stopping, changing direction and everything as it's felt in some time, maybe three or four years. But just that timing and the rhythm of my style of play to shot making... in live action, I feel it for five straight possessions and then I have two possessions where I'll be a little bit off.”
Lillard Morant and Avdija shared the floor for much of day one's live action. Lillard says they still have to work out how to fit together.
“a lot of live action, me, Ja, and Deni played together. So just, you know, there's no way around us having to figure that time out.”
