Avdija's downhill finishing is a big plus and Morant wants to get him more open space.
“With Deni, you know, his ability to be able to, you know, get down the floor, get downhill and, you know, finish through contact or without contact is an extreme plus for us. And the more we can get him in, you know, open space and let him see those gaps, it'd be great for us.”
Morant felt a little passive and wants to be more decisive with the ball.
“I was a little passive. I just got to be more decisive when I have the ball, what I want and where I want to go with the ball.”
Coaches and Lillard are urging Morant to stay aggressive and look for his own scoring in Portland.
“talking with the coaches last night today and then with Dame yesterday, they were telling me to stay aggressive. Obviously when I'm playing like me, it opens up a lot more on the floor for everybody else.”
Portland wants Morant to keep his mentality of attacking the paint.
“When he was playing at a very high level not too long ago he was in the paint like 52 of the time... we don't want to deter that mentality because I do believe Ja Morant, once we get going...”
Morant initiates on timeouts and sideline out of bounds plays while Lillard sometimes works off the ball.
“If the five man gets it, they're looking for Ja... coming out of timeouts and side out of bounds is when it's more called... we'll just kind of say like, hey, Ja, you initiate... And then we want Dame off the ball. And then there's other times where we want Dame on it.”
